Practically every person has things from leatherette. Thanks to modern technology, it can hardly be distinguished from natural materials, but the price, as a rule, differs significantly. The only drawback is the leatherette is not as flexible as genuine leather, and if stored improperly, bruises and creases remain on it. Then it becomes necessary to smooth it out.

In most cases, an artificial leather product can be ironed. But it’s important to follow some rules.

  1. It is imperative to test the leatherette. To do this, all actions are first carried out from the wrong side. If the area is not deformed, you can proceed with ironing.
  2. The product is turned inside out. It is important that the material does not come into contact with itself. For example, if you need to iron a jacket, then a roller, twisted from fabric, should be inserted into the sleeve.
  3. If the lining on the product is too thin or not at all, then put a thin cotton fabric on top.
  4. Next, the mode is set on the iron - the steam function is turned off, the temperature for ironing wool or silk is selected, that is, no more than 30 degrees.
  5. After the iron has warmed up, with neat light movements, you need to smooth out all the bumps and folds.
  6. Ironed product should immediately be turned to the front side and give volume. A pillow or towel should be put in the bag, and the jacket should be hung on a hanger.
  7. After 1 hour, the thing can already be used as usual.

  1. As with ironing, it’s best to first process a small area of ​​leatherette to see if this alignment method is suitable.
  2. The artificial leather product is given volume, it is better to put on a jacket on a mannequin. If it is not there, hang it on a hanger, put the rollers in the sleeves.
  3. Problem spots are steamy for a few seconds. The distance should be at least 10 cm. You cannot touch the leather substitute with your hands, otherwise spots will remain.
  4. After cooling completely (about half an hour), the thing can be used for its intended purpose.

Tip

If you do not have a special steamer, you can use a hair dryer. In this case, the air stream should not be hot, but warm, and directed from a distance of at least 30 cm.

  1. Lightly warm the water to room temperature, pour into a container with a spray bottle.
  2. Turn the jacket inside out, hang by the shoulders. The hanger must be precisely sized, otherwise the product may become deformed.
  3. Spray the lining with spray water. The material should be moist, but not wet, water should not drain out by stream.
  4. Leave the product to dry for 12 hours at room temperature.

Tip

Avoid drafts in the room and do not use electrical appliances to dry your jacket faster. Wet leatherette is very sensitive to temperature changes.

In these ways, our grandmothers tried to stroke leatherette.They are completely safe, suitable not only for artificial, but also for natural materials.

  • Hang the jacket on the trempel and fix it over the bath. Then draw hot water and close the room for several hours. Next, the thing should be thoroughly dried in a room with dry cool air.
  • Go for a walk in rainy (under an umbrella) or foggy weather. High humidity will help smooth out the leather substitute, and in just 2-3 hours it will be perfectly smooth.
  • In a small container mix 5 tbsp. l Mix 9% table vinegar, conditioner and water thoroughly. The resulting mixture is applied to places that need to be ironed with a spray bottle. There is no trace or smell, and the result is almost instant.
  • Moisten a clean soft cloth with glycerin and wipe the jacket. Hang the product on a trempel until completely absorbed, and then repeat the procedure 2-3 times. You can also use any colorless shoe polish.

How to increase leatherette life?

To keep faux leather clothes looking good for as long as possible, it is important to follow the rules for caring for them. What can and should be done?

  • Find the label and study the information on it. You will be surprised, but some products made of leatherette can even be machine washed (at a temperature of no higher than 30 degrees).
  • If washing is prohibited, contamination must be removed with a soapy solution and a microfiber cloth. To prepare the solution, it is best to use a special tool for such products or a regular washing gel that does not contain bleach.
  • Even if there are no visible impurities, it is recommended to clean the product from dust with a damp cloth approximately once every 2 weeks.
  • To avoid wrinkles and deformation, leatherette clothing must be stored on a trempel of the appropriate size.

What can not be done?

  • Wipe the material with a brush or a hard cloth.
  • Dry the leatherette in the sun, on the battery, or using electrical appliances.
