Open and recharge: “disposable” spice mills can be reused

Absolutely all spices are tastier if you grind them just before eating. This explains the desire of the housewives to use the mill for spices again. As practice shows, the first such tool in the house is a disposable one. But if desired, the empty jar can be filled again and again. You just need to know how to open it.

The way to open a disposable mill with boiling water

Open a disposable jar with a mill

Pepper with a mill is often sold at a stock. The jar is filled with large peas, but it is worth twisting the nozzle - and the pepper turns into ground. When the spices are over, many make an attempt to unscrew the grinding nozzle and refill the container. Just do it is not so easy - the lid scrolls and does not lend itself.

The thing is that the nozzle on a disposable mill has no thread. She sits tightly on the ledge of the neck. However, you can remove it:

  1. Boil the kettle and prepare a deep bowl.
  2. Fill it with boiling water and lower the mill there with the nozzle down.
  3. Wait 1–2 minutes and remove the heated, supple plastic with a simple movement of the hand.

You can open a disposable mill without warming up. But then it will take a lot of effort. It is better to entrust the business to a strong man. You need to pull the nozzle towards yourself, slowly scrolling.

Opening a disposable mill with a knife

Some try to pry plastic with a knife or screwdriver. So the container also opens, but there is a great risk of injury. Is it worth the risk when there is a simple and affordable way with heating the nozzle with boiling water?

How to reuse the mill?

After you managed to open the mill, do not rush to fill it. First you need to prepare her for a new "life cycle":

  1. Wash the jar and nozzle with dishwashing detergent.
  2. If you plan to use other spices, you should additionally wipe the entire mill with vinegar diluted with water 1: 1. Otherwise, the aromas will mix.
  3. Then you need to dry everything thoroughly. If the spices get wet, they will not be crushed, crumpled and may become moldy.
  4. Pour your favorite spices into the jar and put the nozzle back in place with a sharp, sweeping motion. Check if it is spinning well.
  5. You can use the “disposable” mill again!

Disposable Spice Mills

Most often, mills are filled with black pepper and peas and coarse salt. Try experimenting. The container can be filled with different types of peppers, sugar, cinnamon, dried garlic, spicy roots and herbs.

A real gourmet does not need to explain what the advantage of freshly ground spices over ground in packages is. Fragrant aroma, rich taste - this is something that can not be abandoned. You can use a disposable mill with spices several times, using the trick of heating plastic. But keep in mind that it is not eternal. The millstones grinding spices will become dull after the second or third filling of the jar. For the future it is worth taking a closer look at the reusable mill: it is easy to add spices to it, you can adjust the grinding fraction, and it looks in the kitchen much more stylish and presentable.

Not a good idea. Grinding knives are made of plastic. It inevitably crumbles and enters the body along with grinding. There it does not collapse. It’s good if it comes out naturally. And if not? He will score everything where he gets. For the same reason, I do not use ceramic knives. Inevitable chipped blades also enter the body and are not destroyed, unlike steel. Look at the edge of the ceramic knife at high magnification and you will see a “saw”. And where did these particles settle?

Yeah ... And it’s not dangerous to mess with boiling water. If you really need to, it is better to pry the outer ring with a knife. But! Is it worth it? A disposable mill and a disposable one to grind one charge! Then the plastic millstones simply wear out and stop grinding. So there’s a recycling tip for goons. It is better to go to the store and buy a new mill, fortunately, they always have discounts somewhere and they cost a maximum of one hundred rubles.

Indeed, such room writers as you are used to be rude, using their impunity. And count if someone wrote such a shnyag to your wife or mother! At that moment I would like to see your chmoshny scoreboard.
Anyway - did you forget the hell on this blog if you buy a new mill every time ?!

Something is wise. Disposable mills. Disassembled easily by unscrewing the cover. The mill itself is plastic. More often it stops grinding. And it’s hard to find quality pepper. It's easier to buy a new one with a few peppers.

Pointless manipulations. The millstones of the mill are designed for single use, some even hardly reach the end of the initial portion.
The only thing that can come in handy is the jar itself without a lid.For example: under an economic loose small thing, or a mini vase for a mini bouquet, it turns out nicely ...)

Not true. They work fine when there is a lot of pepper. As soon as it becomes little feeling that they are worn out. But as soon as you pour a new portion of pepper, they pray like crazy ... I have been filling my jars for a year, I fill them every month. Flying is normal.

Refuel no longer than 5 minutes. Enough for almost a month. The ability to fill in the spices exactly those that I wanted. Mills last for a year or more. Several reusable wallow in a landfill, served much less. I don’t know what you are doing so if 5 min. You can’t allocate per month.

I came across a post on Zen. Why boil something? Carefully remove the top plastic cover with a thin slotted screwdriver - it is soft. By definition - reusable! No peppercorns in stores or very expensive? The pepper is clear, it is not profitable for them to sell it. The mixture can be bought on the market - for a penny!

    10/23/2019 at 16:48 Reply

I open the upper transparent insert with a table knife for butter in 5 seconds. Packaging a mixture of peppers costs 50-70 p., Enough for 3 full refueling mill.A new pepper mill costs 200-280 p. One mill is enough for 6-7 refueling. And another aspect that is personally important to me - such a piece of plastic as a mill will decompose for 500 years, glass for 1000 years! If everyone uses the mill several times, the full PPC will come centuries later.

After using the first content, it doesn’t grind very well. There, the knives are non-self-sharpening and already at the end of the first content it does not grind very well.
If you already have the goal of saving. It’s better to buy a good mill once, and spices separately (in sachets they are 4 times cheaper than in jars)
